A lack of employment rights is largely to blame for the fact that UK workersfeel more insecure about their jobs than virtually anyone else in the world,according to the TUC. The comments followed the release of data showing only those in South Koreaare more unsure of their jobs than the Brits. Around 46 per cent of Korean workers feel insecure, even if they areperforming well, compared with 41 per cent in the UK, according to the researchfrom the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. This compared with 38 per cent for Japan, 37 per cent for the US, Australiaand France, 17 per cent for Norway and 20 per cent for Denmark. TUC general secretary John Monks said the report “exploded myths”that insecurity is a price that must be paid for economic growth. “There are big differences between comparable countries, and this canonly be due to differences in employment rights, culture and comparativeeconomic performance,” he said. last_img read more
