MLA Sam Sullivan discussing accessibility and inclusion in Fort St. John Wednesday night

first_imgThe meet and greet will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. October 2, at the Lido Theatre. The former Vancouver mayor is touring the North Peace this week, and will be sharing his experiences in a discussion Wednesday night. Chair of the Mayor’s Disability Advisory Committee Lori Slater says she’s looking forward to people meeting Sullivan and hearing his ideas on how to move the community forward in becoming more inclusive. “He does have an interest in the North Peace, and I think this is an opportunity of a lifetime for people with disabilities, caregivers, seniors, anyone who would like to meet him,” she says. – Advertisement -One of the points she’s looking forward to discussing is accessible transit in the community, which she thinks is particularly relevant this week as politicians like Sullivan and Minister of Children and Family Development Stephanie Cadieux arrive in town. “We had to pick Sam and [his wife] Lynn up from the airport in our wheelchair accessible van, because we do not have that type of transportation, and this is a huge issue,” she maintains. “We need to have this, and it’s not just for these MLAs; it’s for anybody in a wheelchair that arrives in this community and cannot get from the airport to wherever they need to go.” Advertisementlast_img read more
