‘It’s not just the Spurs lads’ – Eric Dier praises two strengths of England team

first_img1 Eric Dier has praised the attitude in the England squad, following their win over Germany on Saturday evening. The Tottenham midfielder scored the winning goal against Joachim Low’s side, crashing in a header in second half injury time.Dier’s strike was the final moment of an excellent turnaround by the Three Lions, having fought back to win 3-2 after being two goals down.Roy Hodgson’s side looked dead and buried when Mario Gomez scored Germany’s second goal, but Harry Kane started the comeback, before Jamie Vardy pulled the game level.Even at 2-2, England were going all out for the win, and Dele Alli should have secured the victory moments before Dier’s header ended up in the back of the net.The Three Lions showed character which has not been associated with them recently, and Dier has praised the ‘aggression and optimism’ that his teammates showed. The 22-year-old said: “I feel comfortable in the team, but it’s not just down to the Tottenham players. Obviously that helps, but all the boys make everyone feel very comfortable and it’s a young team in general with lots of energy and optimism.“It’s not just the Spurs lads, there’s a lot of lads in there who play with the same aggression and optimism we do.“It’s always better to win than to lose and that’s always more optimistic, but we have to keep our feet grounded.”Dier’s winning goal was even more special as it was his first goal for the Three Lions, and he admitted that scoring was one of the best feelings he has ever had in football.“That is one of the best feelings I’ve felt in football so far,” the holding midfielder added.“It was amazing. To be able to score for England is great, let alone here in Germany.“It was fantastic. And to do it with all my mates from Spurs was even better.” Eric Dier celebrates after scoring for England last_img
